I had a discussion today with a billing service provider in regards to their products and services. Towards the end of the conversation, they invited me to visit their website to find out more about their company, their clients, their offerings and more. One thing they did mention was “Please don’t pay attention to our blog, it has not been updated in a while”.

Create a favicon for your website

Favicons are those cool little website icons associated with a particular website. This custom icon appears next to the website’s URL in the address bar of a web browser.

Common examples include: Google, Microsoft, Yahoo

You will need a Windows Icon file (.ico) that is uploaded to the main directory of your website.

By default, name your custom ico file ‘favicon.ico’

$10 Website Logo Update

To add to the website logo tips post, I ended up trying a $10 web 2.0 logo service and ended up with the new current logo on this site.

There are literally tons of talented graphic designers out there who are willing to produce material for your website at a very low cost. Mine in particular is from Australia and by the sounds of his emails, sounds like he is still in school. Great job!

Thinking about your new website logo

When building a new website for a client I like to ask for a business card or company letterhead to see if a company logo or a certain type of branding exists.

In most cases, if the company has been around for a while and has spent money on marketing, they will in effect have had a professional design a logo for them already made.

In other cases, the company is starting out and is looking for an identity to represent themseleves with online.

‘Free Websites’ and ‘Free Webpages’ are advertised throughout the search engines.
YES they are free and YES it is possible to create your own website with a number of these free website builder services. 

Here’s the story …

We found our daycare provider (let’s call her Jane) through an advertisement in our newspaper and a link to her website. The website was well laid out with lots of information about the daycare facility, services, hours of operations, guidelines, photos and all the information you would need for the care of your child. The website also gave us confidence in her services, her credentials and the care she was to provide for our child.

Website Template Tips

Had a good conversation today with a friend about the type of website he is requiring for his business and the topic of website templates came up.

Obviously he wants his website to look good, give a professional image to his clients and something simple enough that he can manage himself with Adobe Dreamweaver.

I cringe when someone says they want to manage their own website because questions like “Do they know how to upload files?”, “What is they delete a file?”, “Will I need to provide training?”, etc.
