Considering a blog for your website

I had a discussion today with a billing service provider in regards to their products and services. Towards the end of the conversation, they invited me to visit their website to find out more about their company, their clients, their offerings and more. One thing they did mention was “Please don’t pay attention to our blog, it has not been updated in a while”.

This I did not find surprising as some companies really got in to blogging as a method of keeping in touch with their clients, potential new customers and such. Other companies thought it was a great idea, but the maintenance, the posting and keeping current is a bit time consuming.

Google has a number of blogs about the various service offerings they provide: Adsense, Adwords, YouTube and more located at their official Google Blog.

Is a blog right for your business website?

In some cases it absolutely is! People want to know more about your company besides the standard ad copy static webpages. People want to know your thoughts on your industry, your products, your service or whatever may be on your mind at the time.

Personally, I like to subscribe to the blog feeds to all our vendors, suppliers and internet partners. It keeps me up to date on product launches, changes in industry and more.

Writing, at minimum, once a week is sufficient, while in some cases some sites write multiple posts on a daily basis.
