Now that you have set up your blog from the ‘getting indexed step 3‘ post, we’ll need to add a few plugins that do not come standard with WordPress.
Plugins?
Yes, plugins are like add-ons to your WordPress blog. They’re really simple to download, install and configure. Plugins can be anything from adding custom widgets to your blog to adding simple image galleries to your site.
Why plugins for search engines?
A few simple plugins will better assist in getting your website indexed in the search engines.
Here is a quick list for optimizing your blog for the search engines:
- Google XML Sitemaps
This plugin will create a Google sitemaps compliant XML-Sitemap of your WordPress blog. Everytime you edit or create a post, your sitemap will be updated and all major search engines which support the sitemap protocol like ASk.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO are notified about the update. - All in One SEO Pack
Optimizes your page and website titles and generates META tags plus more! - AddThis! Social Bookmarking tools
Makes it very easy for your visitors to bookmark your website or blog, and subscribe to your feeds - Simple TechnoratiĀ Tags
SimpleTags is a WordPress plugin that will allow you to easily generate Technorati tags at the bottom of your blog entries. - Google Analytics for WordPress
A plugin easily adds your Google Analytics tracking code to all pages within your blog.
Upload the plugins to your ‘/plugins’ folder within WordPress and they’ll automatically show up next time you start the admin panel for your blog.
Within the admin panel, select ‘option’ and spend some time configuring each plugin to your needs.
