You’re so excited! You’ve built your website, uploaded it to your web host provider and now you await traffic from the web! Life is good.
People will visit your site, get to know you or your business, request information, persue your site, purchase things, contact you, click on your ads, participate in your blog or forums and more … life is good!
Hold on one second.
If it’s a new website, let alone a recently registered domain name, you perform a search in Google and whoa … nothing!
Where is my site?
How come I do not show in the search engines?
Step one is to read up about Google indexing to get an overview of how this search engine thinks and what it looks for.
What were going to focus on here is how to get your website indexed FAST!!!
Some people will say “Well you can pay to get indexed”,
others will say “No way! Why? When you can do it yourself!”
I recently launched a new site during late hours on a Friday night (aka Sat 2:00AM) and by Monday morning the new site was indexed in Google!
Some things to keep in mind:
- There is not one ‘quick’ solution to getting indexed fast, it is a combination of tasks and processes you may have to perform.
- The natural way is the best, unless you’re in a hurry. Having others link to you will eventually guide the search engines (MSN, Yahoo, Google, etc) to come to your site.
- The tasks outlined here may take you an hour or a few days to complete, but if you’re like me, over time with repetition, the process becomes much quicker.
- The indexing tips outlined here are in no particular order. Some will say “You need to do this first” or “that’s a waste of time”, in the end, you are the master of your site, so you choose!
- Be patient. This is key because they are never any guarantees! The challange is to get indexed in 3 days, which is possible, but there are variables (we’ll touch more on this in a bit)
So let’s start …
STEP ONE: Get to know Google
(estimate task time: 5-45 mins)
If you’re new to all this, find out how the search engine thinks.
There is a lot in there and some of the information may overwhelm you. Not to worry. The more time you spend in there, the clearer the terminology will become. You’ll begin to see how it all fits in.
While you are perusing the Google information as mentioned above, perform the following simple tasks:
Actions: Submit only once to the major search engines:
There are literally hundreds of search engine online in various languages and niches. Business search engines, directories, local search engines, yellow pages, etc. We’ll explore more on this in upcoming sessions and more.
